A fine, old Ibibio (Nigeria) Mask of oval hallowed shape, the rounded chin with enlarged open mouth showing teeth, the T-shaped nose between square holes, with downcast crescent shaped eyes under a high domed forehead, the coiffure with three crown like transverse ridges; black encrusted patina. The back of the mask shows old adze marks and considerable weathering. Circa late 19th/ early 20th century.
