An early Bactrian ritual object, carved out of a conglomerate stone with a high green crystal content. It is thought that a naturally occurring geode was selected for the carving because the geode was regarded as having some magical significance. This piece indeed has a magical aspect. Shaking it reveals that it has a rattle within, mysterious, as it is an entirely closed piece carved from one stone. Southern Turkmenistan/N. Afghanistan.
