Congolese collar (1) formed from a link in the anchor chain of an early trade ship, likely from Portuguese traders. The metal is bronze, perhaps used for its greater resistance to salt water corrosion. Engraved design on edges. Used as a display of wealth. Circa 18th/19th century.
