A small worked triangular handaxe. Great Britain. Circa 350,000 BC

There are two 'eye' features which are seen on both sides. One side of this mask handaxe is fully flaked, the other side retains considerable cortex being worked along one edge only & at the distal tip. The butt is also largely cortex except for some flake removals around one corner. There is a small recent chip to the tip of the handaxe but this shows that the hominid flake scars are all patinated with the same patination colors & were thus removed at the same time in sequence. 3 in/ 7.5 cm long

The only double mask handaxe we have seen.
