A very old Ethiopian three legged stool, with legs that curve outward from the concave seat. Stools of this general design have been made in Ethiopia for generations. But a piece of such great age, showing this wear and patina, is very rare. Such a stool would have long ago transcended any purely utilitarian function, regarded within the culture as taking on the energy of its important owner. No younger person, or indeed any casual visitor, would have dared to sit upon such a stool without permission.
