An old West African iron double snake coil. Hand-forged iron with undulating, folded-in-on-itself construction. Two snakes twisting alongside each other, with horned serpent head. The Fon believe an ancestor, in the form of a snake, led them to their present home. This is an old shrine piece, likely used in cult ceremonies . Heavy encrustation consistent with considerable age.
